National Month of Poetry April 2020 - day 1

April is National Poetry Month and I got the idea from Jason Reynolds (a poet and writer) to write a poem a day for the 30 days of poetry month.  I attempted this last year, but started late and only wrote one poem... so while I am day 4 of my 14 day quarantine with my daughter who just got home from Chile... I thought that I could do some creating in my cocoon of social distancing.  Wish me luck and hope you enjoy....

Together we are a tribe of eyes that look upward
In the dark of night, in my bed, my mind runs wild of craziness...
my heart races...
my sleep is restless...
no position is comfortable anymore.
But this morning I woke at 4 am to my phone dinging a text and he wrote "i know you've stayed up creating" But my head let me sleep last night, my body must have known I needed the rest to give birth.  The anticipation of this morning, here at the river...writing and a day with the hope of recording and more writing...
He too has been writing his notes, his music to dance around my words...
I'm excited to create, to give birth to passion that has been growing inside me...
I've been in this pregnant with possibility stage long enough...
gestation has been longer than I planned, but it's time...
the labor pains have begun, and the promise of a new life being born makes the pain just sweet discomfort...
even the hiccups that make my belly jump and nervous won't dissuade what is...
the labor will contract and push it from the comfort of my body...
to take its first breath in the world...
and even it's cry will be welcomed.
